It seems like so many people have skydiving on their bucket list. And there’s no better place to give it a try than in the Royal Gorge Region, where the skies are wide and blue and the scenery is some of the best in the world. If you’re thinking about embarking on your first skydiving adventure, follow these helpful tips to make your experience better than you could ever imagine.

  • Put as little time as possible between your decision and the actual act of jumping, as that time will be chock full of second-guessing.
  • Don’t drink and dive. As much as you might want a few drinks to calm your nerves, most companies will make you sign a waiver ensuring you haven’t had any drugs or drinks recently.
  • For your first dive, you will most like go tandem, which is when you are strapped to a skydiving professional. You will freefall together a short while before your parachute is pulled and you both land safely on the ground.
  • Pay close attention any time your tandem partner is talking. Not only is it mandatory for you to learn the protocol, it also helps ease your mind to have a friendly conversation.
  • If you wear glasses or contacts, talk to the staff at the jump site to make sure their goggles will protect your eyewear.
  • If you are sensitive to motion sickness, take a non-drowsy Dramamine.
  • When it’s time to jump, don’t look down. In fact, look above you. It makes the jump a lot easier to make.
  • Plan to pay around $200 for a tandem skydive, and up to $100 more for extras like video and pictures.
  • Ask your company’s policy on changing your mind. It’s not uncommon for people to look out of a plane, into to sky below, and suddenly decide it’s not for them.
  • This will be your chance to get views of a lifetime, so be sure to pick a place that will deliver, like the Royal Gorge Region. Check out High Sky Adventures and Parachute Club or Royal Gorge Skydive to book your thrill of a lifetime.
