Stunning Parks and Recreation
While the Royal Gorge Region is packed with trails and areas dedicated to outdoor recreation, the Cañon City Area Recreation and Park District maintains several in-town facilities that offer fields, trails, playgrounds, and more for convenient and local fun. The following facilities are maintained by the district and are in, or close to, Cañon City.
Archery Range
575 Ash Street, Cañon City
Cañon City’s archery range is open to the public during daylight hours and offers targets that range from 10 to 60 yards.
Old Harrison Park
490 North Cottonwood Avenue
This park has a pavilion, playground, basketball court, skate ramp, and climbing boulders.
Ropes Challenge Course
Located on the western end of the John Griffin Park, this ropes course is designed to test personal and group strength. However, it is not to be used without supervision by authorized personnel. Contact the Recreation District at (719) 275-1578 to reserve the ropes course for your party or group.
Arkansas Riverwalk Trail
Enjoy this seven-mile trail that winds along the Arkansas River in Cañon City and beyond. The trail’s surface is hard-packed, crushed gravel and ideal for walking, running, biking, and horseback riding.
Pathfinder Regional Park

This park has a pavilion and a popular fishing pond.
Rouse Park
1600 Park Avenue
As the first park owned and operated by the Recreation and Park District, this park now has open fields, pickleball courts, pavilions, baseball and softball fields, and a playground area.
Arkansas Riverwalk Dog Park
575 Ash Street
Give your pooch a chance to run off-leash and socialize with other dogs at the Arkansas Riverwalk Dog Park.
John Griffin Regional Park
575 Ash Street / Sells Avenue and 9th Street
This park is a natural area located in the central part of Cañon City and has the Arkansas River Trail looping through it.
R.C. Icabone Swimming Pool
1131 College Avenue
Cool off at Cañon City’s public swimming pool. Open Memorial Day to Labor Day, it’s a great place to spend a summer day.
