The Royal Gorge Region has earned the reputation of being a mountain biking mecca because of its numerous trail systems. From the classic Oil Well Flats to the Royal Gorge Trails System, there is a trail for every ability. Best of all, with the Royal Gorge Region’s mild year-round climate, bikers can find their bliss any month of the year.

  1.  Section 13 – Section 13 is a moderate singletrack trail for novice and intermediate riders through the junipers and pinons at the base of the Wet Mountains.
  2. Oil Well Flats – Oil Well Flats is a collection of moderate singletrack trails for the intermediate rider. This trail takes the rider through junipers, pinons, and open areas caused by a 1988 fire.
  3. Hogbacks Open Space – The Canon City Hogbacks offer fun, roller-coaster style riding with easy-to-moderate climbs and descents.
  4. Arkansas Riverwalk Trail – The Arkansas Riverwalk Trail is an easy path that follows the Arkansas River through Canon City.. It is 7 miles one-way with 200 feet of climbing from east to west. This is a novice trail great for families.
  5. Tunnel Drive – Tunnel Drive offers the ease of a recreational path with sweeping vistas of the Royal Gorge. It’s just two miles one-way, so it’s perfect for families.
  6. South Cañon Trail System – The South Cañon Trail System connects to the Section 13 trails and offers something for everyone. Discover flowy, easier trails close to town or try to master the technical climb of Hard Time.
  7. Royal Gorge Trails System – The Royal Gorge Park Trails System traverses the gorge’s rim and surrounding hills, giving hikers and mountain bikers over 17 miles of singletrack to explore and incredible views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Arkansas River as their backdrop.
  8. Point Alta Vista Trail – Ride this short trail on refurbished railroad trestles to one of the best views in Cañon City. Take a quick ride or connect to the larger, 20-mile Royal Gorge Trails System.
  9. Pump Track – In addition to these trails, Canon City has a pump track located just east of the Train Depot and alongside the Riverwalk Trail. The pump track is Canon City’s newest addition for bicycle lovers and offers a great place to hone your skills.
