Westcliffe
Westcliffe sits in Colorado’s Wet Mountain Valley and is surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo and Wet mountains, making for breathtaking scenery. The town is rural and relies heavily on ranching, which means there are unobstructed views in all directions.
Westcliffe is visited by people from all over the world, for not only the views of the mountains, but for the town’s many recreational activities, such as hiking, fishing, camping, horseback riding, and bird watching.
Westcliffe, along with its neighboring town, Silver Cliff, is an International Dark Sky Association Designated Dark Sky Community. In other words, the stars here are phenomenal, and tourists come from all over just to see Westcliffe’s night sky. Bluff Park off Main Street has an observatory and it’s also where Dark Skies of the Wet Mountain Valley holds free monthly star parties.
Every year, Westcliffe hosts the High Mountain Hay Fever Festival, High Peaks Music Festival, Westcliffe Stampede Rodeo, and more. Local museums include All Aboard Westcliffe and the Silver Cliff Museum.
For something a bit out of the ordinary, Bishop’s Castle, a one-man creation made of stone, is not far from town. Free and open to the public, this fortress in the forest is sure to amaze.
Come visit Westcliffe where you will truly find a sanctuary and a small population of friendly faces ready to show you what makes Westcliffe shine.
