The Fremont Center for the Arts

The Fremont Center for the Arts, located in historic downtown Cañon City, is the oldest privately-run art center west of the Mississippi. Founded in 1947, the art center now resides in Cañon City’s old post office, a 1933 building that is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Fremont Center for the Arts offers multipurpose venue spaces for a variety of groups, musicians, and artists. Classes for every age are taught, workshop space is available for artists, and monthly rotating exhibits showcase a wide range of themes and mediums.

The center also exhibits parts of its permanent collection, while a library of more than 300 art history-related books is open to the public. Shows, contests, and special events are also held throughout the year.

As you visit the Royal Gorge Region, be sure to check the Fremont Center for the Arts calendar for its current scheduled exhibits.
